to better prepare the needs related to the loss of a loved one

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN 2021-09-06 – Swedish online funeral director and digital law firm Fenix today announced that it has received 30 mSEK (c. 2.5 mGBP) from Brightly Ventures and a group of existing investors, including John Wattin and Tomas Ekman, to scale up its operations in the UK, fuelled by strong growth both in Sweden and UK.

Fenix offers caring support for funeral planning, probate and will services made easy and affordable online. The Fenix platform enables families to peacefully plan and book select services from the privacy of their own home. Always supported by video, phone or in person by their experienced advisors and solicitors.

“I know from my own life that whenever a family member passes away, it is an emotional and difficult experience. In today’s world of planning a funeral, the structure and process support is often fragmented and costly” says Fenix co-founder Charlotte Runius. “We founded Fenix to help families with convenient and flexible planning, building a caring one-stop-shop with access to support and counsel and of course great value for money”.

Fenix has helped almost 10,000 Swedish and UK families part with their loved-ones. The company is experiencing strong growth in both countries and is now about to launch its services in another 20 cities across the UK.

“The needs of the family are at the centre of everything we do. Our unique platform enables us to provide a premium personal service for an affordable price. I’m so proud of the fantastic reviews that show families truly appreciate our help” says Charlotte. “We are looking forward to working together with the British funeral industry to drive availability and transparency through digitalisation in this important sector over the next couple of years”.

Brightly Ventures has followed Fenix for several years.

“Fenix takes a conservative industry into the 21st century with grace.” says Katja Bergman, General Partner, Brightly Ventures. ”Like other health service industries digitalise, so will the funeral and post planning industry. We are impressed by the team and their ability to de-bundle a traditional business model, for digital access to pre and post planning services, with focus on the modern customer’s needs. A grieving family can now plan from home, taking their time, involving everyone and making the right choices, without pressure. We see how customers love the service, and we are thrilled by the opportunity to support Fenix expansion in the UK.”
